Everything you need to know about Post-COVID travel to the Maldives?

The Maldives ensures a safe and comfortable journey for everyone visiting the country following a range of COVID 19 health protocols — which have been identified by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), giving this beautiful destination a Safe Travels Stamp — thus offering travellers the peace of mind when they visit this island nation.

In this article, we share all about the health protocols of the Maldives that you need to keep in mind when travelling to this beautiful destination.

Who can Visit the Maldives?

Currently, travellers from all countries can visit the Maldives except for travellers with a travel history to South Asian countries ( Afghanistan and Pakistan) until further notice.

Pre-arrival

  • You need to apply for Visa before or on arrival and submit a Traveller Health Declaration (THD) within 24 hours prior to their travel with a COVID-19 negative PCR test result(accept for infants aged less than one year old) done from a sample collected 96 hours before departure for the Maldives, beginning with the first port of embarkation on route to the Maldives.
  • The maximum number of days you can stay in the Maldives is 30 days.
  • You should also have a pre-paid hotel booking/accommodation for your entire stay.

Flights

  • Many airlines travel to the Maldives, including Qatar Airways, Emirates, Sri Lankan Airlines, Saudia, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern, Air India, Turkish Airlines, China Southern, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, Aeroflot, Etihad Airways and Thai Airways.
  • All flights are bound to follow health measures requested by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives.

During the Stay

If you have completed the prescribed doses of a Covid -19 vaccine (excluding children who are not eligible for vaccination)at least 14 days before to check-in or stay at Tourist Guesthouses in local islands.

If you are not completed your vaccines, you can check-in only at Tourist Guesthouses in local islands that comply with the following.

  • At least 60% of the Tourists Guesthouse island population eligible for vaccination has received the prescribed dosage(s) of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 14 days have passed since the prescribed dose (s).
  • At least 95% of personnel at all tourist facilities of the Tourist Guesthouse Island have vaccinated and 14 days have passed since the recommended dose (s).
  • At least 90% of the Tourist Guesthouse Island’s resident population aged 65 and up have completed and 14 days have passed since the recommended dose (s).

The HPA will announce tourist guesthouse islands that satisfy the aforementioned requirements.

On Departure

If you get positive for COVID-19, you will be isolated at the Resort or taken to a government-run isolation facility, depending on your health condition and the situation.
