Sri Lanka does not demand a minimum number of days for a stay and has recognized as one of the leading travel destinations to earn the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Safe Travels Stamp in recognition of the strict safety procedures being implemented across the country to ensure peace of mind for you.
Here are the important things to keep in mind when travelling to Sri Lanka.
Who can Visit Sri Lanka?
Everyone can visit except for travellers with travel history (including transits) to the following countries in the last 14 days; South American and South African nations (South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe)
Also, Travellers from India who are not vaccinated or are not completely vaccinated are not authorized to enter Sri Lanka for tourism purposes.
Pre-arrival
- Visa applications must be applied online prior to arrival. On arrival visa is no longer available.
- Fully Vaccinated travelers who have completed 14 days after recommended doses of vaccination and arriving with a negative COVID-19 PCR report done within 72 hours of embarkation OR with a negative COVID-19 Rapid Antigen test report done within 48 hours prior embarkation can freely travel around the country without PCR test on arrival in Sri Lanka or quarantine.
- Unvaccinated or Vaccinated but arriving within 14 days of the complete vaccination required to stay in a Level 1 ‘Safe & Secure’ hotel for up to 14 days. You will need to do on arrival PCR and pre-confirm your accommodation and Transport before your arrival in Sri Lanka.
- Travelers with a history of COVID-19 infection during past three months could arrive with a negative rapid antigen test report done within 48 prior to embarkation, and should carry the diagnosis card and Positive PCR/Rapid Antigen report as a proof of past history of illness.
Flights
- Tourists can fly into Sri Lanka on regular and chartered flights, as well as by private jet.
- All inbound flights to Sri Lanka are obliged to follow the Civil Aviation Authority’s health regulations.
- The number of tourists permitted to enter Sri Lanka each day will be decided by the testing capability of the private laboratories designated for tourist PCR testing.
- Before boarding your trip to Sri Lanka, you must fill out a health declaration form.
During the Stay
- You will need to show the original copy of your vaccination certificates/cards, at the airport and at your first hotel.
- Children under the age of two who are travelling with fully vaccinated adults will not be subjected to an carry a PCR report.
- Unvaccinated or Vaccinated but arriving within 14 days of the complete vaccination required to stay in a Level 1 ‘Safe & Secure’ hotel for up to 14 days. You will need to do an exit PCR on completion you 14 days of vaccination OR 14 days of quarantine.
- You are permitted to visit approved tourist spots under the safety of a bio bubble.
On Departure
- In order to board your flight to leave Sri Lanka, you must provide proof of a negative PCR test that was performed no more than 96 hours before the flight’s departure time.
If you test positive for COVID-19 during your stay, you will be isolated in a care center or moved to a private hospital —only if there are any concerning symptoms.
